Once again I'm pleased to present you with my latest work. I was commissioned this painting by Marta and Angel, they seperately came to me for a commission of a family portrait as a surprise present for their 10th wedding anniversary. I thought it was fair to let them both know about eachothers intentions...
The background chosen was Kyoto Gardens in Holland Park, donated by the Chamber of Commerce of Kyoto in 1991 to celebrate the Japanese festival. This Zen garden has a delightful pond and waterfalls. A great place for relaxing in the middle of the London buzz.

Una vez más tengo el placer se enseñaros mi último trabajo. Me lo encargaron Marta y Angel, quienes vinieron a mí por separado con la idea de un retrato familiar sorpresa con motivo de su décimo aniversario de boda. No tube mas remedio que revelarle a cada uno las intenciones del otro...
El fondo elegido para el cuadro ha sido Kyoto Gardens en Holland Park, donado por la Cámara de Comercio de Kyoto en 1991 para celebrar el festival Japonés. Este jardin Zen tiene un lago encantador con una cascada. Es un lugar pefecto para relajarse en medio del jaleo de Londres.

Alan Hescott, Children's tv writer

I had the pleasure to photograph Alan Hescott, children's tv writer and BAFTA winner.
I first met Alan when he directed "The Love of Don Perlimplín and Belisa in the Garden" by Lorca, for our exhibition 'Muerto de Amor' in October 2010.
I saw him lost in thought many times and imagined painting his portrait trying to capture this moment. He very kindly agreed to have his pictures taken and here's the result.
When Alan writes his children's stories he keeps an object, often a teddy bear, that reminds him that he needs to be in a child's frame of mind!

Invest in Future 2011 Auction results

I'm proud to inform you that my lot at the auction went for £5750. Even though it didn't reach as much as in 2008, it was the 4th highest of 24 lots. All the money goes to the Prince's Trust, a chariry that helps disadvantaged young people into work.

Other lots included: A limited edition signed piece from Sir Peter Blake; a legendary Bass Guitar signed by Sting; a signed print from Sir Paul McCartney; a luxurious Private Villa for 24 un Sicily; a vogage on board Queen Elisabeth for two.

The Invest in Futures Gala Dinner, took place at the Natural History Museum. The evening started with a cocktail reception where I exhibited my paintings surrounded by fossils and a giant sloth squeleton thousands of years old. It was a really charming enviroment to be exhibiting at!

The annual dinner, which unites hedge fund leaders and financiers from around the world, raised more than £1 million for The Trust, the largest sum ever raised at the event since its launch in 2005.

Joan Collins, Dionne Warwick, Kate Aidie, Rod Stewart and Penny Lancaster joined city high-fliers to raise record funds for The Prince’s Trust, at one of the most important fundraisers in the calendar. Grammy award-winning legend, Dionne Warwick, performed at the fundraiser, which was hosted by Clive Anderson.

Invest In Futures 2011

I'm happy to inform you that one more year I'd be raising money for the Prince's Trust by donating a portrait for the auction at the Invest in Futures Gala Ball 2011.

The event will take place on 3rd February at the Natural History Museum, London, where I'd display some of my work.

Let's see if I can match the bid from 2008, won by Jim Chanos, who paid £7500 to get his portrait done! His portrait showing here!

Elena is a Spanish artist based in London who specializes in family portraits. She has a MA in Contemporary Art from Sotheby's Institute. In 2005 The Prince's Trust recognized her talent and potential by granting her a funding award to pursue her life-long dream of succeeding as an artist.

Influenced by Old Masters, contemporary artists and the cultures around her, Elena's remarkable interpretation of her subjects allows her to create bold, yet reflective representations, animated with colour and character. Elena's success has seen her work exhibited in great European cities including London, Leeds, Berlin, Salzburg and Madrid.

This lot entitles you to a one-off portrait on canvas by Elena. Using acrylic paint, she will work from photographs, following a pre-portrait consultation.

The portrait will be of one person only. It will measure approximately 41 x 41 cm. Consultation to be arranged at a mutually convenient time in London.

'Muerto de Amor' Events

'Muerto de Amor' has been a truly inspirational event and I'm extremely proud to have been part of it! We've had the honour to have the collaboration of amazing professionals from the world of theatre, poetry and puppets.

During the opening, the Goya award winner actor and director, Carlos Alvarez-Novoa, gave a speech on Lorca's work. We also had the pleasure to have the introduction to our catalogue written by him.

On the weekends, artist from SAL gave painting and ceramic workshops for children.

There was also a puppet show, 'Everything Counts' from Pedro Capdevila inspired in the work of Lorca.

The Bafta winner director, Alan Hescott directed the english version of "The Love of Don Perlimplín and Belisa in the Garden" which was performed by Multi Cultural Classics (MCC).

There was a night of poetry performance organized by Susie Campbell in which poets from different nationalities got together to pay homage to Lorca reading their work in at least 6 different languages. On the last night (sat 9th oct), there'll be a performance of folk songs written by Lorca, the play, and a speech from actress and director Sudha Buchar, whose latest play 'The house of Bilquis Bibi', is inspired in 'The House of Bernarda Alba' but with reference to the pakistani culture.

All these events are taking place in the gallery space, giving each event a truly special and intimate feel!

It's been incredible to have seen so many people united and inspired by one single artist. Thank you Lorca and Carlos for organizing it!

'Muerto de Amor' Opening Photos

It was a very emotional opening with Goya award winner actor and director, Carlos Alvarez-Novoa, who very kindly gave a lecture about Lorca specially written for the night. His voice made me have goose bumps specially when he read poetry!

Chelsea Open Air Nursery School

I have donated this drawing of the Chelsea Open Air Nursery School for their silent auction. The building is beautiful and as I found out today on their open day it's a brilliant environment for the development of the children of pre-school age. The nursery has also published a wonderful book called 'Food For Thought' with a story about the school and family recipes, photographs and drawings. Very inspiring!

Stanmore College Speech

On the 3rd December I was invited to give a speech to prospective students for International Baccalaureate at Stanmore College in North London. As a student of IB from 1991-1993 myself, I spoke about my experience studying the Diploma and how it helped me in my career.

Reminiscing those years, I came across this wonderful photo of a mural I painted in the art classroom back in 1992. The mural is based on an Egyptian painting found in an anonymous royal tomb in 1260 b.C. It's called 'El Ostrakon de la Ballerina'. I chose it because I thought it was a very unusual painting compared to the hieratic Egyptian imagery that is more commonly known. This image proves that the egyptian artists painted with aesthetic liberty when painting for themselves.

I also did it because I didn't want the school to forget about me, and so, I made a permanent imprint. I think it actually worked! Sometimes I bump into younger students and they all remember the mural and the name of the person who did it.

Dimbleby Lecture 2009

I had the honour and priviledge to attend the Dimbleby Lecture 2009 given by the Prince of Wales at St James's Palace. It was a heartfelt lecture and very inspiring. After the lecture there were some drinks and canapes in the gardens. There I had the chance to meet and speak to Prince Charles, who shook my hand and wouldn't let go, said had heard about my successes... and laughed at the idea of the portrait I did of him!; the Duchess of Cornwall who had to be introduced twice to me because I froze; the actor Michael Sheen (played in 'Frost/Nixon' and Blair on 'The Queen')who is now Ambassador to the Prince's Trust and who was extremely friendly and kind to me (Michael, I'm waiting for your blog comment!); and other interesting people from other Prince's Charities and the BBC. Overall, it was a great night and I'm still diguesting it all!

About the Dimbleby Lecture:
The Richard Dimbleby Lecture (also known as the Dimblebly Lecture) was founded in the memory of Richard Dimbleby, the BBC broadcaster who was the commentator for the coronation of Queen Elizabeth II and the funeral of Sir Winston Churchill, and hosted Panorama. He died in 1965.
The RD Lecture has been delivered by an influential business or political figure almost every year since 1972 . Other previous Richard Dimbleby lecturers include Bill Clinton, General Sir Mike Jackson, Dame Stella Rimington and Dr Rowan Williams.

Invest in Futures Gala Diner 2008 (Part I)

I had the pleasure to donate a painting for the Invest in Futures Gala Diner 2008 which took place the 6th November. All the money raised in the auction will go to the Prince's Trust. The photo here shows the area I had during the reception to promote my lot.

Invest in Futures Gala Diner is the central fundraising event of the Prince's Trust, raising over £1 million every year to support the vital work of The Trust. This exclusive dinner is attended by leaders of the hedge fund and global finance communities as well as Prince’s Trust celebrity ambassadors.

The 30 lots in the silent auction included not only a portrait by me (lot 3) but also lots like a guitar signed by the Rolling Stones; a transatlantic crossing on board Queen Mary 2 for two; a signed lithograph by HRH The Prince of Wales; two kilograms of the World's Most Exclusive caviar (worth £6000) or meeting Donatella Versace at Milan's Fashion Week.

The live auction lots included amongst others: Flying with the Red Arrows and a stunning Asprey Necklace.

It has been a great honor to be selected for this exhibition as one of the representatives of the business supported by the Prince's Trust.

Nearly 200 people visited the gallery in Mayfair. There were three night dedicated to celebrities, Prince's Trusts mentors and people from the financial world in London.

From the celebrities I really enjoyed meeting Eric Knowles (Antiques Road Show) and Julian Glover (actor) With both I had wonderful and fun conversations!

Amongst others in attendance were Sir Peter Blake, artist who famously designed the cover of the Beatles' Sgt Pepper's album (he said he enjoyed my painting!), Dame Diana Rigg, actress, Tamsin Egerton and Tallauh Riley, stars of the St Trinian’s film, Helen Worth, Gail from Coronation Street and Tracey Edwards, round-the-world yachtswoman.

This exhibition has given me another boost of energy and confidence to keep pursuing my dream. Both my paintings 'Family in the Park' and the portrait of Prince Charles were enjoyed by the viewers and were a focal point of conversation.

I have also met other incredible artists whom I hope to keep in touch with in the future.

Back in 2005 I was sponsored by the Prince's Trust to set up my business. Now two of my paintings have been chosen for an exhibition to celebrate the Trust's 25th Anniversary.

One of the works selected is one of my latest paintings of a family in the park. This would be the only opportunity to see this painting as it will go to its commissioner as soon as the exhibition is finished.

The other painting couldn't be other than my famous portrait of Prince Charles! After all, I did paint it when I was applying for their sponsorship.

MEDITERRANEO is an exhibition created by an idea of Rossana Pittelli, the art expert and curator of the art events at the Italian Cultural Institute and co-curated by the art critic Gabriele Magnani, UK correspondant for AD Italia Magazine (Conde' Nast)

This is an ambitious project that involves many contemporary artists from the Mediterranean Sea basin, an area spanning Europe, Africa and the Middle East. The different artists chose to express themselves in different media, ranging from paintings to sculpture, from drawings to photographs, digital art and experimental works.

Identidad.es (Private View)

The 13th of September was the opening of identidad.es. We had around 300 people coming to the exhibition that night and was a great success! We had the privilege to have visitors like the Spanish Ambassador in London, Don Carlos Miranda with his wife Elena (see photo attached), and the Spanish Cultural Attache, Don Juan Mazarredo. I showed for the first time a portrait of the King of Spain which I painted to replace the outdated official photo that they had at the Instituto Cervantes and a selfportrait in my studio. (see post 20 March 2007)

El 13 de septiembre se inauguró identidad.es. Esa noche recibimos alrededor de 300 personas y fué todo un exito. Tubimos el privilegio de contar con la presencia del Embajador de España en Londres, Don Carlos Miranda y su mujer Elena (ver foto adjunta) y del Delegado Cultural de la Embajada, Don Juan Mazarredo. identidad.es is a site-specific art exhibition that will occupy the whole building of the Instituto Cervantes. Visitors will come across the artworks in the most unexpected places, and classrooms, corridors and staircases will become the set for this extraordinary event.

The show reflects on how artist's perception of their own identity is changed by the conflicts and opportunities that arise when living in a different culture, and how this is reflected in a broader multicultural context.

Identidad.es is organized by SAL, a group of Spanish Artists that live and work in London. Getting away from the traditional gallery setting, they attempt to challenge the way Art interacts with the public and how an established institution can present Contemporary Art to new audiences.

2007 Pintores Noveles (Premios Fivars)

I'm pleased to announce that I've been preselected for a prize of New Artists (Premios Fivars). There has been over 600 artists taking part and only 40% have been preselected for an exhibition at Galería Fivars, Monte Pego, Alicante from 31th May 2007. I will be showing "Ce Ne Sont Pas Des Chaussures". The final 10 final prizes will be announced on the 22th June.

Me alegra comunicaros que me han preseleccionado para un premio de Pintores Noveles (Premios Fivars). Ha habido más de 600 participantes y han seleccionado el 40% para exponer en la Galería Fivars, Monte Pego, Alicante desde el 21 de Mayo del 2007. Expondré "Ce Ne Sont Pas Des Chaussures". El 22 de Junio será la entrega de los 10 primeros premios.

Artist in the Studio (Self-portrait)

Dear All! I'm happy to be able to show you this new painting. This is the beginning of a series of self-portraits that I've started and that I will hopefully show at the Instituto Cervantes in London in September this year. In the meantime, I'm submitting this painting to the prestigious BP Portrait Award. I'll have to wait until the end of April to find out if I've been selected. If there's any luck, you'll certainly be the firsts to know!

Berlin, Part II

Hi! I'm now back from Berlin. The exhibition was a very pleasant surprise! My paintings were hung at the entrance to the left of the gallery in what I thought was a priviledge place. You could also see them from the street since they really came alive in the grey days of Berlin. The atmosphere at the opening was a lot of fun and we met people from many different backgrounds. There was a nice speach and prize ceremony from Brendan Davis, Editor in Chief from Art Interview Online Magazine, I got the 3rd price! Berlin, Part I

Hi! I'm going to Berlin where I'll be exhibiting in a group show at Gallery twenty-four. The opportunity to exhibit there came as part of getting a 3rd Place Winner for the ART INTERVIEW 3RD QUARTERLY INTERNATIONAL ONLINE ARTIST COMPETITION. Original and digital artworks of 40 award winning contemporary artists from 17 countries will be shown. I'll let you know how it goes when I get back.

"Esquilos Lejanos", Press

The "Esquilos Lejanos" exhibition in Zaragoza turned to be a success which reflected on the interest of the media: tv, newspapers and radio. "Esquilos Lejanos"

“ESQUILOS LEJANOS” (“far away sheep bells”) is the name of the S.A.L. exhibition taking place in Zaragoza. It features a number of sheep bells and other objects, images and texts relating to them and/or their surroundings. All the bells have been either created or modified for this show by the artists represented by this collective.

Once again I used my wedding as inspiration for painting my sheep bells. Being confronted with the 'sheep bell' as an object, I thought of them as accessorise or jewellery for the sheeps. Having that in mind, I designed patterns to paint on them that made reference to the those of my vail and of my husband's tie that was worn at our wedding.

“ESQUILOS LEJANOS” was initiated by Carlos Cortes and has been developed in collaboration with S.A.L. It´ll be part of “TABLAS”, a series of exhibitions organized by E-MIGRE and sponsored by the AYUNTAMIENTO DE ZARAGOZA.

"For Better & For Worse"

"For Better & For Worse" has taken place on 8th December 2006 in London. It was a site specific event where the artists of S.A.L. shared their thoughts on the ups and downs of love and relationships.

I used the shoes I got married in as inspiration for this painting. Instead of the shoe brand, I wrote inside: "MR & MRS, Until death do us part", hoping that one would understand that the subject was to do with marriage. However, I didn't want it to be just a formal representation of shoes, as marriage is not just about the celebration but also about deeper things that surround it that are not as visible but are very important. That is why I adapted the title of Magritte's painting "Ceci n'est pas une pipe" and called my work "Ce ne sont pas des chaussures" in an attempt to make one think of those hidden aspects of marriage.

I finished painting "The White Horse" in August 2006 and it's been very successful!

It's a pub in London where we've spent a lot of time in the summer. It has an outdoor area with barbecue! I hope to have captured the atmosphere on a bright day in London!
